Resurrection and Reckoning
* No one but Allah knows the time of the Hour.[21]
*
Then comes the blow of stunning and the blow of
resurrection, when everybody will be resurrected for reckoning.
*
Then people are mustered to the ever greatest situation (the
Day of Ruling).[22]
* In the Day of Ruling, people will be exposed to the greatest
fright which will be increased or mitigated according to their balance of deeds.
* Everyone will see his balance of good and bad deeds, as they
will be weighed with a balance unknown to us.[23] * All people after that will be pushed to the bridge (Sirat) that spans the Hell-fire. Those whose bad deeds overweigh the good ones will fall in Hell, e.g. disbelievers and polytheists, whereas the obedient benevolent believers will be rescued to the eternal paradise.[
The Hour:
Allah says:
]إنَّ
السَّاعَةَ
لآتِيَةٌ لا
رَيْبَ
فِيهَا[
This means: “Verily,
the Hour (Day of Judgement) is surely coming, therein is no doubt” (40,
Ghafir: 59)
Allah says:
]وَمَا
يُدْرِيكَ
لَعَلَّ
السَّاعَةَ
قَرِيبٌ .
يَسْتَعْجِلُ
بِهَا
الَّذِينَ
لا
يُؤْمِنُون
بِهَا
وَالَّذِينَ
آمَنُوا
مُشْفِقُونَ
مِنْهَا
وَيَعْلَمُونَ
أَنَّهَا
الْحَقّ
أَلا إِنَّ
الَّذِينَ
يُمَارُونَ
فِي
السَّاعَةِ
لَفِي
ضَلالٍ
بَعِيد[
This means: “And what
can make you know that perhaps the Hour is close at hand? Those who believe
not therein seek to hasten it, while those who believe are fearful of it,
and know that it is the very truth. Verily, those who dispute concerning the
Hour are certainly in error far away.” (42, Ash-Shura: 17 - 18)
Allah says:
]يَسْأَلُونَكَ
عَنِ
السَّاعَةِ
أَيَّانَ
مُرْسَاهَا
قُلْ
إِنَّمَا
عِلْمُهَا
عِندَ
رَبِّي لاَ
يُجَلِّيهَا
لِوَقْتِهَا
إِلاَّ هُوَ
ثَقُلَت فِي
السَّمَاوَاتِ
وَالأَرْضِ
لاَ
تَأْتِيكُمْ
إِلاَّ
بَغْتَةً
يَسْأَلُونَكَ
كَأَنَّكَ
حَفِيّ
عَنْهَا
قُلْ
إِنَّمَا
عِلْمُهَا
عِندَ
اللّهِ
وَلَـكِنَّ
أَكْثَرَ
النَّاسِ
لاَ
يَعْلَمُونَ[
This means: “They ask
you about the Hour (Day of Resurrection): "When will be its appointed
time?" Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (Alone). None
can reveal its time but He. Heavy is its burden through the heavens and the
earth. It shall not come upon you except all of a sudden." They ask you
as if you have a good knowledge of it. Say: "The knowledge thereof is
with Allah (Alone) but most of mankind know not.''”
(7, Al-A`raf: 187)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him ) said:
“My
advent and the advent of the Day of Judgment are placed together as my two
fingers.”
(Reported by Al-Bukhari and
Muslim)
There are many more references to the Hour in the Holy Qur’an and
Sunnah:
The blow and resurrection:
Allah says:
]وَنُفِخَ
فِي
الصُّورِ
فَصَعِقَ
مَن فِي
السَّمَاوَاتِ
وَمَن فِي
الأرْضِ
إِلا مَن
شَاء
اللَّهُ
ثُمَّ
نُفِخَ
فِيهِ
أُخْرَى
فَإِذَا هُم
قِيَامٌ
يَنظُرُون[
This means: “And the
Trumpet will be blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are on the
earth will swoon away, except him whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown a
second time and behold, they will be standing, looking on (waiting).” (39,
Az-Zumar: 68)
Allah says:
]يَوْمَئِذٍ
يَصْدُرُ
النَّاسُ
أَشْتَاتًا
لِّيُرَوْا
أَعْمَالَهُمْ[
This means: “That Day
mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their
deeds.” (99, Az-Zalzalah: 6)
Allah says:
]وَإِذَا
الْقُبُورُ
بُعْثِرَتْ.
عَلِمَتْ
نَفْسٌ مَّا
قَدَّمَتْ
وَأَخَّرَتْ[
This means: “And when
the graves are turned upside down (and they bring out their contents).
(Then) a person will know what he has sent forward and (what he has) left
behind (of good or bad deeds).”
Allah says:
]أَفَلا
يَعْلَمُ
إِذَا
بُعْثِرَ
مَا فِي
الْقُبُورِ[
This means: “Knows he
not that when the contents of the graves are brought out and poured forth
(all mankind is resurrected).”
Allah says: ]يَوْمَ
يَكُونُ
النَّاسُ
كَالْفَرَاشِ
الْمَبْثُوث[
This means: “It is a
Day whereon mankind will be like moths scattered about.” (101,
Al-Qari`ah: 4)
The Reckoning:
Allah says:
]وَنَضَعُ
الْمَوَازِينَ
الْقِسْطَ
لِيَوْمِ
الْقِيَامَةِ
فَلا
تُظْلَمُ
نَفْسٌ
شَيْئًا
وَإِن كَان
مِثْقَالَ
حَبَّةٍ
مِّنْ
خَرْدَلٍ
أَتَيْنَا
بِهَا
وَكَفَى
بِنَا
حَاسِبِين[
This means: “And We
shall set up balances of justice on the Day of Resurrection, then none will
be dealt with unjustly in anything. And if there be the weight of a mustard
seed, We will bring it. And Sufficient are We as Reckoners.” (21,
Al-Anbiya’: 47)
Allah says:
]وَالْوَزْنُ
يَوْمَئِذٍ
الْحَقُّ
فَمَن
ثَقُلَتْ
مَوَازِينُهُ
فَأُوْلَـئِكَ
هُمُ
الْمُفْلِحُونَ.
وَمَنْ
خَفَّتْ
مَوَازِينُهُ
فَأُوْلَـئِكَ
الَّذِينَ
خَسِرُوا
أَنفُسَهُم
بِمَا
كَانُواْ
بِآيَاتِنَا
يِظْلِمُونَ[
This means: “And the
weighing on that day (Day of Resurrection) will be the true (weighing). So
as for those whose scale (of good deeds) will be heavy, they will be the
successful (by entering Paradise). And as for those whose scale will be
light, they are those who will lose their ownselves (by entering Hell)
because they denied and rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses,
lessons, signs, revelations, etc.).” (7, Al-A`raf: 8 - 9)
Allah says:
]فَمَن
يَعْمَلْ
مِثْقَالَ
ذَرَّةٍ
خَيْرًا
يَرَهُ.
وَمَن
يَعْمَلْ
مِثْقَالَ
ذَرَّةٍ
شَرًّا
يَرَهُ[
This
means: “So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small
ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom
(or a small ant), shall see it.” (99, Az-Zalzalah: 7 - 8)
The bridge (Sirat):
Allah says:
]وَإِن
مِّنكُمْ
إِلا
وَارِدُهَا
كَانَ عَلَى
رَبِّكَ
حَتْمًا
مَّقْضِيًّا.
ثُمَّ
نُنَجِّي
الَّذِينَ
اتَّقَوا
وَّنَذَرُ
الظَّالِمِين فِيهَا
جِثِيًّا[
(مريم: 71 – 72)
This means: “There is
not one of you but will pass over it (Hell); this is with your Lord; a
Decree which must be accomplished. Then We shall save those who used to fear
Allah and were dutiful to Him. And We shall leave the Zhalimun (polytheists
and wrongdoers, etc.) therein (humbled) to their knees (in Hell).” (19,
Maryam: 71 - 72)
Paradise
and Hell:
Allah says:
]مَنْ عَمِلَ
سَيِّئَةً
فَلا
يُجْزَى
إِلا
مِثْلَهَا
وَمَنْ
عَمِلَ
صَالِحًا
مِّن ذَكَرٍ
أَوْ أُنثَى
وَهُوَ
مُؤْمِن
فَأُوْلَئِكَ
يَدْخُلُونَ
الْجَنَّةَ
يُرْزَقُونَ
فِيهَا
بِغَيْرِ
حِسَابٍ[
This means:
“Whosoever does an evil deed, will not be requited except the like
thereof, and whosoever does a righteous deed, whether male or female and is
a true believer (in the Oneness of Allah), such will enter Paradise, where
they will be provided therein (with all things in abundance) without
limit.” (40, Ghafir: 40)
Allah says:
]وَسِيقَ
الَّذِينَ
كَفَرُوا
إِلَى
جَهَنَّمَ
زُمَرًا
حَتَّى
إِذَا
جَاؤُوهَا
فُتِحَتْ
أَبْوَابُهَا
وَقَالَ
لَهُمْ
خَزَنَتُهَا
أَلَمْ
يَأْتِكُمْ
رُسُلٌ
مِّنكُم
يَتْلُونَ
عَلَيْكُمْ
آيَاتِ
رَبِّكُمْ
وَيُنذِرُونَكُمْ
لِقَاء
يَوْمِكُم
هَذَا
قَالُوا
بَلَى
وَلَكِنْ
حَقَّتْ
كَلِمَةُ
الْعَذَابِ
عَلَى
الْكَافِرِين.
قِيلَ
ادْخُلُوا
أَبْوَابَ
جَهَنَّمَ
خَالِدِينَ
فِيهَا
فَبِئْسَ
مَثْوَىالْمُتَكَبِّرِين.َ
وَسِيقَ
الَّذِينَ
اتَّقَوْا
رَبَّهُمْ
إِلَىالْجَنَّةِ
زُمَرًا[
(الزمر: 71 –
73) This means: “And
those who disbelieved will be driven to Hell in groups, till, when they
reach it, the gates thereof will be opened (suddenly like a prison at the
arrival of the prisoners). And its keepers will say, "Did not the
Messengers come to you from yourselves, reciting to you the Verses of your
Lord, and warning you of the Meeting of this Day of yours?" They will
say: "Yes, but the Word of torment has been justified against the
disbelievers!'' It will be said (to
them): "Enter you the gates of Hell, to abide therein. And (indeed)
what an evil abode of the arrogant!''
And those who kept their duty to their Lord will be led to Paradise in
groups.”
There
are many other evidence in the Holy Qur’an and Sunnah.
